COMPACT AND COMFORTABLE EXPEDITION
With this Air Cruise you fly both there and back between Punta Arenas and King George Island, a flight of approximately two hours. On King George Island, a zodiac will take you to the cruise ship where your Antarctic expedition begins. Depending on your travel dates, you will board the Magallan Explorer or the Ocean Nova for your expedition; both ships can accommodate approximately 70 passengers in various cabin categories.
A UNIQUE MICROCLIMATE AND PICTURESQUE LANDSCAPES
One of the highlights of this cruise is Deception Island , an active volcano 12 kilometers across. The summit collapsed and the caldera flooded. This has created a unique microclimate. While the air temperature can drop well below -20ºC, there are places where the water temperature is as high as +70ºC. The contrast is incomprehensible.
The final destination of this cruise is the Lemaire Canal , a very spectacular narrow strait with snow- and ice-covered rocks rising steeply out of the sea on either side. Due to the seclusion of the strait, the water is calm, sometimes as smooth as a mirror. The reflection of the majestic mountains in the water with floating ice floes is extremely picturesque.
