An impression of the weekend market in Thimphu, Bhutan
We’ll meet them on the way. Men and women on their way with merchandise to the weekend market of Thimphu. Often it is vegetables, grown and harvested in its own fields. The market in Thimphu is a social event where the locals meet and the latest news is exchanged and of course trade is done. No, it’s definitely not an Albert Cuijp market but more of a scene from back in the day.
I feel like a bit of an intruder at first, but that feeling quickly fades away. There is friendly laughter and I quickly feel welcome. Women with children, sellers of red peppers, herbs, masks… After the sometimes deafening silences during the tour of this beautiful country, this lively weekend market is a welcome experience, one that will stay with me for a long time to come.
[Do you want to experience this? This trip lends itself perfectly to that!]
